Orange orange

Orange orange, 2019.
Mixed media on canvas.
Try defining the colour orange without using any colour terms. Orange orange is a correspondence with the painting 好看吗(Nice) in attempt to understand colour as a blind person. The Orange on the canvas is blue, so what? To a blind person the orange is orange colour because that is what the braille says, and the image is redundant. Colour is an abstract concept to the blind. The only way for them understand colour is through a tangible representation of the colour or through scientific explanation of light, which the latter sounds as absurd to a layman as to a blind person. Through this painting the artist also hopes to let viewers with normal vision empathise with people with visual impairment by inviting the viewers to stare at the orange for 1 min then look away to stimulate temporary vision disorientation.
